Water Bill Adjustment Handled Quickly and Professionally

Barbara D. had a cabin in Gila County, Arizona, that she and her extended family used for weekend getaways and hunting trips. It was so often in use that it never occurred to her that she should shut the water off when it was unoccupied.

“I don’t shut the water off, because I go back and forth to the Valley,” she said. “When I got up there, I heard the toilet running and it had never done that before. I don’t think that anyone had been there, so no one would have been using the water.

“Last time when I went up there, and I saw that it was running constantly, and the (septic) leach field was all water, it was pretty traumatizing. I turned off the water at the street, I was so freaked out.”

Barbara called a plumber to determine why the toilet was running. After an initial replacement of the handle and flapper didn’t resolve the issue, she ended up replacing the entire toilet to ensure that she didn’t have any further leaks. When she received the next water bill after discovering the running toilet, she was in for some more bad news. Barbara’s water bill from the Pine-Strawberry Water Improvement District was more than $630 dollars above her average bill.

“I have had that place for 41 years and never had an issue like this,” she said.

Barbara called up her local utility to see what options she had to manage her high bill. This was when she got her first bit of good news. Pine-Strawberry Water offered leak protection through ServLine, and Barbara was encouraged to file a claim through ServLine to pay the more than $630 she owed over her average bill.

“I was very impressed with how quickly it was handled. For something so stressful, it was handled very matter of fact and handled very well, quickly and conveniently.”

“It was a nice surprise,” she said. “I didn’t know how it worked, so I talked to someone (about the ServLine program), and they told me I needed to have a plumber come out and fix (the leak) and show them the bill. They told me I would hear back from the adjuster in a week, but within two days, they called me back and said ‘this is the amount we are going to cover.’ I was very impressed with how quickly it was handled. For something so stressful, it was handled very matter of fact and handled very well, quickly and conveniently.”

Barbara was so pleased with the service she shared her experience with others in the area.

“My cousin also has a place up there, and I told my cousin and other friends who have places up there,” she said. “I was so impressed, and it was handled so well.”
